Dover Castle

Before we boarded our cruise we went to Dover Castle. Transportation is very limited in Dover and we ended up having to pay our Air B and B host to drive us in shifts to Dover castle and then later wait in the rain to have her drive us in shift to the boat dock. We didn't know it would be so hard to get around in Dover.

The complex of the castle was huge! We were only able to explore part of it. We liked that they had it set up and dressed up like it would have looked like when it was used and they had people dressed up reenacting things you would see during the time period.

We also went down to explore the dungeons down slippery and uneven steps (at least they had a rope to hold on to)

We learned that only the most noble or rich slept in the beds and they slept sitting up due to superstition. Everyone else slept on the floor which would have been better because they wouldn't be inhaling smoke from the fires. We also listened to a presentation in the kitchen describing how they would have prepared food. The whole experience made me glad I didn't live in a castle.

Waiting in the rain for our ride.

Great times meeting the cast of reenactors.
